A Visit with Jill

Filed under: Uncategorized — jillcheeks @ 10:14 pm

We had the pleasure of meeting Jill Giles last week. She is Anne Callihan’s relative who is our friend and also happens to be renting the house in Asheville.

Different modes of transportation…we took the train from Kings Cross to Town Hall and then from Town Hall to Circular Quay, and then the ferry to Mosman Bay. The kids like going on the trains and ferries.

Jill met us at the ferry and she was warm from the beginning. Jack took to her right. She lives in Mosman Bay which is on the northern side of Sydney Harbour and we currently live on the South side of the Harbour, so we were able to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House from a different perspective.

Jill next took us to Balmoral Beach. It is a lovely spot from where you get a glimpse of North Head. There were cafes, Moms strolling their kids about, a nice beach and lots of space.

It was a little chilly and the kids were letting us know that it was time for lunch, so we headed to Jill’s house.

Jill’s house was built in 1904, a Federation-style home. It has a wonderful layout and a wonderful backyard. The backdoors slide open to a walkout garden patio and yard. The kids were able to run around the backyard. Jill had toys that the kids could play with while they waited for lunch. She showed them the vegetables and herbs she had growing. She had their favorite things for lunch, tomatoes, ham, cheese, carrots, bread and bananas.

After lunch Jill gave Jack a water gun to water the herbs and vegetables. This was great fun for Jack. She also had play farm animals that the kids played with on little tables.

For dessert we had lemon cake with passion fruit yogurt and it was soooo yummy. I have been dreaming about the cake ever since eating it! She made the lemon cake with lemons from the lemon tree in her backyard! She gave me a lemon off her lemon tree and some basil that she had been growing.

The kids played for a little longer and then it was off to the boat for the ferry and two train rides home. You know how much the kids enjoyed the day as Jack voluntarily gave Jill a hug bye. He doesn’t normally do that until he has been around someone for a looonnnnngggg time.

Much thanks to Anne and Jill for providing such a memorable day for us!!
